It’s where Oasis is based, and boasts a pretty sight or two, but we’re always on the hunt for some more things to see and do. We asked stylist Alexandra Steadman, the very fashionable lady behind the blog The Frugality, for her top tips for exploring London; after all, who better to ask than a Londoner?
Oasis – Hi Alex, how long have you been living in London for?
Alex – I have lived just outside London, in Sutton, all my life, and more recently in Tooting for the last 8 years.
Oasis – You’re a SW girl! What’s your favourite thing about the city?
Alex – That it never stops; new exciting restaurants and galleries are opening up all the time. I feel so proud when I show people around.
Oasis – If you had a pen pal who was coming to visit you in London, where would we find you hanging out at the weekend?
Alex – I do actually have one! We’d go to a pub in Chelsea or to one of the many South Indian restaurants in Tooting (most which are BYOB).
Oasis – But if you were to go out for drinks, where would be your favourite place to go?
Alex – I don’t go out drinking very often, but I sometimes go to Soho for after-work drinks with colleagues. We like The Shaston Arms or The French House. I get much more excited by food!
Oasis – Don’t we all? But back to fashion (something we both definitely get excited about!), what do you think of the new AW14 windows at our flagship store?
Alex – I love it when a brand has fun with fashion, that’s what it’s about. Your window displays make me want to go in and see what it’s all about. Although I was always terrible at dodgems.
Oasis – How did you get into blogging? You’re definitely good at that, if not dodgems!
Alex – I was working at a magazine, so had access to lots of information. I had an idea and basically thought ‘if I don’t do it, someone else will’, and it stemmed from there.
Oasis – What’s your favourite thing about autumn?
Alex – I actually love staying in at home, so quite enjoy the excuse of the cold weather to hibernate a bit! I also get really excited for the new season – I always a buy my winter coat really early to avoid disappointment.
Oasis – Any favourites from London Fashion Week this season?
Alex – I love what Simone Rocha brings to LFW – she always excites me. And I’ve been loving Preen for the past few seasons too.
Oasis – Finally, what trends will we find you in this AW14?
Alex – I’ve got three favourites! First it’s a coloured faux fur stole, to make any outfit fabulous, then a midi skirt, which I’ll wear with trainers to keep it fresh for winter, and finally plaid, I’ve never been one to do it before but I think it’s about time I tried.
Oasis – Just us who are thinking of trying all three at once..? We’ll let you know how it goes!
