Blog Archives

We’re big fans of the beautiful Carrie and her wonderful blog Wish Wish Wish, so when we found out there was going to be a magazine produced we we’re beyond excited. A collaboration with her best friend (and fellow blogger of course) Lucy as part of their final year University project, this magazine has been a labour of love for the two but the results are definitely worth it.

From interviews with girls across the globe, ‘Make your Own’ articles to create pretty journals and beautiful fashion stylings in vintage surroundings, Wish is everything we could…well…wish for.

Our guilty pleasure though is the gold stars that come with the magazine for you to mark off your favourite pieces. These girls read our minds! Now when can we get the next issue…

We discovered illustrator Rosie Lovelock whilst she was selling her prints and wares at Brick Lane Market. Rosie by Oasis marks an exclusive collaboration, inspired by Rosie’s love of fine line, pattern and fairytales. We caught up with this lovely lady to find our a little bit more about her favourite things…

1. So tell us a little bit about how you started illustrating…..

I always loved Art lessons at school and used to take a sketch book everywhere I went. After completing my Illustration degree I moved to London. I have since started up an online shop with a fellow illustrator, selling illustrated bags and cards and am part of a collaborative project at Studio Lovelock with a short animated film in the pipeline.

2. What or who inspires you?

I take inspiration from SO many things, but most of all love anything with line, pattern or detail. I am also inspired by… Wes Anderson films, old family photographs, fabric patterns, Indian block printing, Grimm’s fairy tales, Bjork, London and its many chimney tops, fashion, conversations on the buses, other peoples clothes, Peter Blake, my grandma’s anecdotes, Tracey Emin, Bauhaus, old packaging, old circus posters and rides, botanical illustrations.

3. How did your collaboration with Oasis come about?

I had a market stall at the Renegade craft fair in Brick Lane. Clive (the Design Director at Oasis) bought one of my lion tote bags and black rabbit tea towels, and said that he would like me to do some designs for Oasis. They’ve been the dream client, allowing me complete creative freedom. I was able to stay true to my style and really indulge in what I love drawing; patterns and lines with the odd animal thrown in. I was thrilled to be part of this project.

4. What did you want to be when you were growing up, has illustrating always been a big part of your life?

Yes, illustrating has always been a big part of my life despite my dream to be a cheerleader!  I used to draw inside my Rupert the bear books until I discovered magical things with blank pages called sketchbooks. Being an artist was the life for me (I soon hung up my pom poms). Since then I’ve always had a sketchbook on me where I can get lost in my world of intricate owls and lions in pyjamas.

5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

There isn’t much spare time but I do love exploring the V&A Museum followed by a lavender cupcake. I also love knocking out a few freeform Kate Bush moves in the living room.

6.. What’s your favourite piece from the collection?

Very hard to pick….. I love the deer dress, it’s so elegant.

One of our favourite new magazines is back! The summer edition of Betty is on the shelves now and is just as beautiful as we remembered, resplendent with cute as a button illustrations and photos.

This time, the bi-annual magazine is all about food (Betty, you read our minds), and the team have set themselves the not so trick task of cooking it, drawing it, photographing it and eating it just for us.

Thanks girls! Betty – loved by everyone from Style Bubble to Grazia and Lauren Laverne (and now Oasis of course) – is officially our new best friend. Read more about their adventures here.
