oasis

We literally stopped the traffic in Dublin on Thursday with our fabulous fashion bus. With style advice on the aw collections and pampering treats from loreal and peter marks the oasis girl was ageing to get on board. After we finished up the local Garda held up the traffic for us so we could carry on our tour to dumdrum today and cork tomorrow. Come down and hop on board if your in the area!

RCA FASHION SHOW 2010

Today we had the pleasure of attending the Royal College of Art Fashion Show, which was a showcase of the fashion & textile graduate’s final collections. Not only were our eyes on the wonderful and amazing creations of the students (who we predict will all be ones to watch) but also on the punter’s stylish creations.

Surprisingly it didn’t seem to be the normal fashion pack formula of head to toe black, killer heels and a designer handbag, but instead a welcome array of colours and prints. Jumpsuits were a popular favourite and are a great way to do trans-seasonal dressing as they can easily be dressed up or down or layered to suit the weather. We also love the printed maxi dress styled with a simple cardigan and a tan bag, as well as the red and camel combination, two colours which we already predict will be key for the upcoming season.

Leave a comment and tell us which is your favourite outfit.

It’s mid week and the rain is pouring – we should be sitting outside having picnics and bbq’s but instead, why not invite the girls over and create a cocktail of your own! We got a recipe from one of the girls in the office who has a bit of a reputation as being a good cocktail maker who throws the best parties. All you need is some luxurious champagne glasses and plenty of nibbles. Go all out and put on your posh frocks!

Pomegranate Ginger Champagne Cocktail
Fresh taste of ginger and pomegranate – yes please. Topped with Cointreau and champagne – what more could a girl want! Follow the simple recipe below:

You will need:
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/4-inch-thick slice fresh ginger
4 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 teaspoon Cointreau or other orange liqueur
1 750-ml bottle brut Champagne, well chilled

Preparation:
Boil first pomegranate juice, sugar and ginger ingredients in heavy small saucepan until syrup is reduced to 1/3 cup, stirring often, about 10 minutes. Allow to cool. Pour 4 teaspoons of pomegranate syrup, 1 tablespoon orange juice, and 1/4 teaspoon Cointreau into each of four 6-ounce Champagne flutes. Fill each with 2/3 cup Champagne and voila! A sophisticated cocktail to help you forget about the rain!

PAPER DOLLS HAS ARRIVED!

Today sees the launch of our first Oasis Designer Collective range this season, Paper Dolls. The collection consists of three dresses and two gorgeous pairs of shoes designed by two talented graduate students, focussing on 3D and origami.

We had a quick chat with the girls to speak about the range and their inspiration.

Jenny Neil – Design and Textiles – Edinburgh College of Art

Oasis: How did you feel when you were approached by Oasis?

I was so excited! I think its great that my work will be available to buy in the Oasis stores and alongside other designers.

Oasis: And what inspired you?

I was inspired by architecture and paper folding – much of my degree collection was inspired by patterns and structures of modern, innovative architecture and my goal was to create a collection of fashion fabrics that would have a 3D optical quality.

Oasis: How have you enjoyed working with Oasis?

It has been amazing to see how the designers at Oasis have worked with my prints and used them in ways I could never have dreamed of!

Oasis : And what are you up to now?

At the moment I am working as a freelance designer and artist in residence at Edinburgh College of Art – it gives me a great opportunity to work with current students and extend my technical abilities whilst pushing my design ideas forward to expand my portfolio.

Claire McInally – Textiles – Heriott-Watt University of Textile and Design

Oasis:  Tell us about the inspiration for your designs in the collection?

My inspiration came from my graduate collection – I actually specialised in weave at university but with a passion for modernism and structure I wanted to combine with 3 dimensional forms. I focussed on mixing the traditional craft of weaving with modern aesthetics to create a woven textiles edge.

Oasis :Tell us about the technical aspect of your design?

I enjoyed using a muted colour palette to allow emphasis on the intricate detail in my designs. To create a modern colour palette I used tone on tone colour and engaged pastel colours with hints of monochromatic tones.

Oasis : What is next for you?

Since graduating I went to complete a work placement with a Fashion Designer in Geneva where I gained experience designing prints for fashion and accessories. I have now set up my own label and I am currently working on my new collection from my studio in Glasgow. I will be exhibiting my latest collection at design exhibitions throughout the Summer.

CANNES YOU FEEL THE GLAMOUR

Last week the annual film festival in the South of France kicked off and we have been enjoying keeping tabs on all of the amazing outfits that our homegrown Brits have been wearing.

Carey Mulligan cut a fine picture with her simple understated outfit dress with embellished collar.

Meanwhile Kate Beckinsdale pulled out all the stops in two gorgeous dresses – we love the off the shoulder cream number with the flowing hair and that soft plum colour and the up-do are definitely the way forward for a red carpet look!

We also managed to find some gems from times gone by at Cannes. Below is the beautiful Bridget Bardot posing on the beach in 1952.

Our other faves are the legendary Sophia Loren entering the festival in 1955 and the original diva Maria Callas surrounded by men at the festival in 1956.

Its highly unlikely we will ever get to visit Cannes, but at least we can make like a superstar and don our finest occasion wear (of which we have some stunners at Oasis) for any summer parties, weddings etc that are coming up! (Now all we need is a celebrity make up artist, hairdresser, masseur, personal fitness trainer etc to look as good as the stars – we can dream!)

A PIECE OF PICASSO

We’ve only just had one Bank Holiday but now our thoughts are already turning to the next one at the end of this month! Keen to swot up on some culture, we are going to head to Liverpool to catch the latest exhibition at their fantastic Tate Liverpool Gallery.

Tate Liverpool

Picasso: Peace and Freedom runs from 21st May to 30th August and brings together over 150 works by Picasso from across the world. The exhibition reveals a fascinating new insight into the artist’s life as a tireless political activist and campaigner for peace.
