LET US INTRODUCE YOU TO BETTY...24/01/2012 - 13:05 |
Let us introduce you to Betty – your new best friend. Started as a University project, Betty began life as a gorgeous online magazine which is now debuting in print – and we were lucky enough to attend the launch party with some seriously stylish Betty girls.
As championed by blogger extraodinaire Susie Bubble, one of the most stylish girls on radio, Lauren Laverne, and fashion glossy Grazia, the mantra of this new quarterly magazine is to celebrate being one of the girls. For everyone from 18 to 80 we just love the vintage inspired fashion, hair tips, recipes and stories. So, let them tell you all about Betty….
Betty is your new best friend
She knows a lot but she's not a know-it-all
She has a vintage heart and high street shoes
She cooks but she's not a chef
She blogs and tweets but loves a good old magazine
We don’t know about you, but we’re hooked! Betty – let’s be friends. And now over to them....The girls behind this magazine have hand picked their favourite pieces on our site this season. Shop their fashion favourites direct from this page, and then catch up with the Betty girls on their website here.

MUST READ: SWEET VALLEY HIGH CONFIDENTIAL20/04/2011 - 14:24 |
When we mentioned the 90s teen title Sweet Valley High on our Twitter page recently, it became very apparent that you were as big fans of Elizabeth and Jessica as we were! So you’ll be just as excited as us to learn that author Francine Pascal has returned to our favourite twins and penned the novel Sweet Valley Confidential, tracing the lives of the girls ten years later.
Available to buy now, the book follows Liz and Jessica as 27 year old women, and it seems they didn’t leave the drama at High School… We’ll be taking a serious nostalgia trip and ensuring this is our must-have holiday read!

NEW GIRL CRUSH: ZOOEY DESCHANEL18/04/2011 - 09:48 |
We’ve been following actress Zooey Deschanel for a while now, and with her forthcoming role in the film Your Highness alongside Natalie Portman, we’re sure this will soon be the lady on everyone’s lips. With an impressive list of films under her belt already including Almost Famous, Yes Man, 500 Days of Summer and The Good Girl, Zooey is also singer in band She & Him, singing gorgeous harmonies accompanied by laid back guitars on our newest favourite soundtrack to Spring.
Recently appearing as the face of Rimmel London cosmetics, the only thing more impressive than Zooey’s CV is her vintage inspired wardrobe – all 60s style prom dresses and quirky separates. Zooey, let’s be friends!

WE LOVE: OASIS SPRING STYLING IN LOOK MAGAZINE31/03/2011 - 09:52 |
We've just finished reading this week's fashion glossies - and it's enough to put us in the mood for some serious retail therapy! We love the way Look Magazine have styled our Botanical Print Shift Dress with a peach coloured corsage for their High Street Hottest. A little bit Katy Perry, a lot Carrie Bradshaw, we’ll definitely be stealing this Park Avenue Princess style tip for our next special occasion.
Want to try this relaxed romantic hair and makeup look? A peach pout in a nude gloss accompanied by a lighter smokey eye in shades of brown and beige is just so pretty teamed with tousled waves. Our insider advice? Going over the ends of your hair using your straighteners as curling tongs teamed with a spritz of beach salt spray creates gorgeous waves even Oliva Palermo would be proud of.

If you’re anything like us, this certifiable Spring-like weather has made us want to ditch everything, head outdoors and just bask in the sun all day long! And as the weather heats up and April is just around the corner, we can’t help but think about all the lovely bank holidays on the horizon.
First it's Easter, then it's the highly anticipated Royal Wedding and then it's May Day - our diary has never looked so appealing! Word on the grapevine is that there are going to be a lot of street parties in full swing across the country. And why not? We love the vintage feel of taking the party outside and celebrating in style (and sunshine!). Those in the know will be heading to Talking Tables to score themselves everything required for a kitsch and cute British Street Party, including the quintessential tea cup, the all important bunting and prim and pretty cake stands to display those delicious baking efforts. SPRING RECIPE: WE MAKE CHURROS14/03/2011 - 17:09 |

It feels like spring has finally sprung! With the brighter mornings and warmer temperatures, we’re daydreaming about garden parties, barbeques and festivals. We may not have booked our summer holidays yet but we’re busy comparing our favourite memories from exotic locations… and our finest foods from recent trips. An almost unanimous favourite? Churros! A little like doughnuts, a lot like a little taste of heaven, these may not be the healthiest snack, but they are a delicious and decadent treat to make for your friends on lazy Sundays or midweek meet ups. Serve with chocolate sauce and dust with cinnamon as well as sugar for a twist on this traditional Spanish recipe.
Ingredients:
• 1 cup plain flour
• 1/4 tsp baking powder
• 1 cup water
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil
• A pinch of salt
• 1 tsp caster sugar
• Vegetable oil for frying
• Several tbsp sugar to sprinkle
1. Pour vegetable oil into a large heavy bottomed frying pan. Make sure there is about 2 inches of oil in the pan to cover the churros. There should be enough oil so that they float freely while frying. Set pan aside.
2. In a medium sauce pan, pour 1 cup water. Add oil, salt, sugar and stir. Bring water to a boil.
3. While waiting for water to boil, pour the flour into a medium-sized mixing bowl and add baking powder and stir.
4. Once water boils, remove saucepan and begin heating oil in frying pan.
5. Slowly pour boiling water from saucepan into flour mixture - stirring constantly with a fork until it is a smooth dough without lumps.
6. Spoon dough into a piping bag with a large, star shaped tip.
7. Carefully squeeze dough into hot oil and fry until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spatula or long-handled fork. Place on a paper towel to drain.
8. Once drained, cut into 8cm lengths. Sprinkle with sugar or drizzle with honey and serve.

MUST WATCH TV: THE MODEL AGENCY01/03/2011 - 19:02 |
You’d think working in fashion, us girls at Oasis HQ would be able to resist watching fashion features in our spare time… well, you’d be wrong! We are just as glued to Channel 4’s The Model Agency as you are and powerless to resist a sneak peek behind the fashion curtain and an insight into the magical world of modelling.
Taking us direct into the offices of Premier Model Management, the programme promises to show us the realities of ‘the world’s most glamorous industry’… and so far, it seems cut-throat! Too short, too tall, too big boned, too young - it seems that it’s only a very lucky few that are just right to make it onto a model agency’s books, and it’s a far from easy living once you’re there. However, with commercial jobs paying up to £200,000 (!!!) and the opportunity to jet-set across the globe for the world’s most glamorous industry, you can certainly see the appeal. And you can understand why this industry shrouded in mystique is just perfect for the fly on the wall treatment.
It seems one of our favourite bloggers, Disney Roller Girl is as glued to The Model Agency as we are – read her interview with Premier owner Carole White here and book your space on the sofa every Wednesday now!
Who are your favourite models? Are you an edgy Agyness Deyn kind of girl, a fan of the retro Daisy Lowe or are you following new face Edie Campbell? Tell us, here…
