Welcome back sunshine and welcome back Sunday Girl. Now that summer feels like it’s finally on the horizon, we sat down to chat with fashion blogger Charnelle Geraldine about her favourite ways to rock the colour of the year: luxe lilac.
Hi Charnelle, thanks so much for agreeing to be one of our Sunday Girls! You’ve got a background in fashion. How easy do you find it translating trends into wearable, everyday styles?
Thank you for featuring me as one of your Sunday girls! Yes I have always worked in fashion; from retail and styling to marketing and now blogging. That has definitely helped me with translating trends into everyday looks. I love keeping up with the catwalks and figuring out which trends really speak to me and can be used to elevate my signature style.
Your Instagram feed is packed with chic tailoring and floaty, feminine dresses – would you describe your style as quite eclectic?
I’ve never really thought about my style as being eclectic, because I’m obsessed with feminine tailoring every season, and pretty dresses in the summer, but I guess you could say it is eclectic as I like to add a spin on looks, such as adding a tough, denim jacket with a dress, pairing chunky boots with a skirt, or adding some unexpected colour into the mix.
Our spring/summer campaign is all about making a splash this summer. What is your favourite way to make a splash with your style?
Definitely with prints! In the summer, my wardrobe is packed with them, from florals to paisley styles, and I find injecting a bit of colour can really lift an outfit (and your mood!). I’ll often team colourful prints with white or denim separates to make them more wearable.
Lilac is a huge trend this season. How will you be wearing it?
Lilac reminds me so much of growing up – it was definitely the ‘it’ colour for 90’s girls, so it feels very nostalgic. I will, of course, be wearing lilac dresses like the one in my outfit, as it’s a super girly colour and a gorgeous print. I’m also looking forward to sporting lilac tailoring this season as well; I’m picturing a lilac trouser suit, paired with a white broderie anglaise blouse and tan sandals (yep, adding this to my summer wishlist now!).
What key trends are you most looking forward to introducing into your new-season wardrobe?
The key trends that I’m getting excited about this spring/summer are denim tailoring, short suits and summer florals. I’m also in love with the whole world traveller trend. The travel influence on fashion this year, with the beautiful textures, ruffles, ethnic prints, statement jewellery and bold colours is such an exciting trend!
What are your favourite pieces from our spring/summer collections – anything you can’t wait to get your hands on?
I love the direction of your spring/summer collection. Especially the Latin-American influence that’s coming through with the ruffled skirts. I can definitely see me wearing those items on holiday this year! I also adore the pretty floral dresses in dusky colours, the beautiful print pieces, and not forgetting those amazing short suits! Oasis is really catering for my style this season.
It’s that time of year when we start to get holiday-fever! What are the top three essential pieces you MUST have in your suitcase?
Definitely a strong pair of sunglasses, (you wear them every day so they’ve got to be good). A wow-factor swimsuit –the type that gives you bad tan lines, but you overlook it because it looks so nice on. And lastly, a beautiful, floral summer dress that floats behind you in the breeze as you walk along the beach watching the sunset.
What’s the best piece of style advice you’ve ever been given?
The best piece of style advice I have ever been given is to ‘have fun with fashion’, which I think is particularly relevant for the Oasis ‘Make A Splash’ campaign. Inject some fun into your style, and don’t shy away from a bit of colour this season!
